About hour host and instructors ...

Keli Sim DeRitis is an artist, entrepreneur, enthusiastic traveler, and cookbook author.

After many years working as a graphic designer, a life-changing trip to Italy in 2000 led to a new career. Keli founded Poggi Bonsi, an Italian-themed kitchen store in 2001. Owning the shop required extensive travel through Italy and France to source products and cultivate partnerships. Along the way Keli learned to prepare regional specialties from both home cooks and professional chefs. Keli has been teaching cooking classes and organizing tours to the European countryside since 2014. She closed her beloved kitchen business in 2017 to focus on leading tours and sharing the unique history and culinary traditions of areas off the tourist track.

Exploring new destinations and sharing unique experiences is the primary goal of Poggi Bonsi Tours. Organizing a retreat in the Cotswolds has been a dream for many years and Keli is excited to share this creative week with you!

Abigail Waddell is an award-winning contemporary landscape painter working mainly in oils. She is also a part time NHS Rheumatologist who spends virtually all of her spare time painting. She finds that keeping the scientific and artistic parts of her brain enthusiastic, active and engaged, generating new skills and ideas to progress and improve in each of her roles is the perfect balance.

She lives in the Cotswolds, and paints mainly local landscapes, inspired when out and about walking in local fields, villages and towns. She also paint scenes related to her favourite places in the UK-in particular NW Scotland (where she has spent every summer for the past 25 years), also Wales, Devon and Cornwall.

She likes to sketch and paint en plein air, often finishing works or creating larger works based on sketches when back in the Studio in Ewen. She favours oils for landscapes of land or sea in which the light and in particular the clouds demand an impressionistic approach, to allow the piece to reflect more than simply a snapshot of what is in front of her, and give the viewer a role in interpretation.

For scenes involving buildings, boats and structures, She uses collage of local materials, (newspapers, old maps etc.) and acrylic paint and ink, finishing with pen work ... this allows greater emphasis on the texture of materials particularly those made by man, and leans to her occasional need to  get bogged down in the detail! Abigail will share this technique with our group of artists and will help us create a mixed-media masterpiece of our own to take home as a souvenier of our creative week in the Cotswolds.
