Keli is headed to Umbria for a fantastic week at L'Antica Vetreria a restored glass factory in the medieval village of Piegaro.

Our group will visit some of the most charming hilltowns of Umbria including Assisi and Orvieto. The ancient village of Bagnoregio will take us back in time and the hike up the footbridge to get there will quench our thirst for adventure! We'll visit Deruta, famed for it's Italian ceramics, and meet one of Poggi Bonsi's suppliers to see how these exquisite pieces of art are created. Our group will venture in to Tuscany for an afternoon of shopping in Pienze, known for its world-famous Pecorino Cheese. We'll taste local wines and learn to prepare some classic Umbrian dishes.

Tour Highlights

Visit Pienza, just over the border in Tuscany, and wander it's charming lanes, and shop for clothing, jewelry, and pecorino cheese!

One morning we will visit Assisi with a private guide and tour the Basilica of St. Francis.

On Tuesday we'll spend the morning at Monte Vibiano Winery. It is the only winery in the world that is completely "green" and certified as carbon neutral. Our group will enjoy a specially designed Eco-Tour of the vineyards in electric jeeps. We'll taste wine and nibble crostini dressed with estate-bottled olive oil. If we're very lucky we might meet one of the owners...the lovely Principessa Maria Camilla.

We'll visit Deruta and tour GP Deruta, one of Poggi Bonsi's suppliers, we'll tour their workshop, watch a master potter practice his craft, and see the painters at work. Beautiful Italian ceramics can be purchased at a discount and shipped safely home.
A short stop at the Sanctuary of Madonna del Bagno near Deruta will provide a spiritual respite on a busy day. Hundreds of ceramic plaques commissioned to offer thanks to Mary decorate the chapel. All are signed with the initials PGR which stands for "Per Grazia Ricevuta" or For Grace Received.

A trek up the footbridge to the ancient village of Bagnoregio will take us back in time and our group will indulge in rustic Umbrian fare at Trattoria Antico Forno.

We'll have a private guide in Orvieto and tour of the Duomo which is decorated with thousands of glass tiles made at the glass factory that is now L'Antica Vetreria, our home for the week.

Our group will learn to prepare classic Umbrian dishes in two cooking classes, one at our villa and another at a winery.
