Makes one cocktail, or a pitcher depending on the “part” used.
Empress gin is a magical mixture of gin infused with herbs, citrus and butterfly pea blossoms which give it its vibrant violet color. It has an herbaceous and slightly sweet flavor that is complemented in this drink by the addition of the Meyer lemon. The rosemary simple syrup pairs well with the citrus and coriander in the gin. The Empress can be a bit over-powering, so this recipe uses one part vodka, but 3 parts Empress gin can be used if you dare. Who doesn’t love an ethereal lavender cocktail?
- 2 parts Empress gin
- 1 part vodka
- 2 parts rosemary simple syrup*
- 1 part Meyer lemon juice
For the Garnish: rub the edge of a cocktail glass with a lemon wedge and dredge in organic sugar.
- Place all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously…not wimpily…until tiny shards of ice are suspended in the liquor.
- Pour into a cocktail glass prepared with a sugar rim as above and enjoy with some salty snacks.
*For the rosemary simple syrup:
Combine 2 cups water with 2 cups sugar (white sugar, not organic), and 5 sprigs of fresh rosemary. Boil for 15 minutes. Strain and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. You can also freeze it in ice cube trays to use as needed.
