Pylônes Collection of Products
Pylônes (pronounced PEE-LOAN) was launched in 1985 in the Parisian suburb by 3 young entrepreneurs who used their 400′ basement and their neighbor’s garage to manufacture extensible rubber jewels in funny animal shapes. Several Parisian stores enjoyed the uniqueness and originality of the products and decided to carry their collection. The first sales being successful, the jewel line was extended to rubber ties, handbags and braces, using the same rare manufacturing technique: colored natural latex hand poured in plaster molds
As the success gets bigger so did the team. Sophie Roberty, a young intern specialized in working natural latex, joined the company. She developed a line of prêt-a-porter and home accessories. Pylônes’ new strategy was to transform people’s home into whimsical places with functional products and to bring some poetry into daily routine. The company opened its own first store in Paris in 1987, on the Ile Saint-Louis, to sell its production of daily life objects redesigned with humor.
The kick that made the company internationally famous was the meeting in 1993 with a manufacturer who owned an exceptional spray and varnish painting process. From now on Pylônes started editing products in plastic and metal. The company dramatically extended its range of products as the new painting technique.
Today Pylône products are found throughout Europe and an in the United States. We stumbled upon the Paris store a few years ago and fell in love with the color and style of these unique gadgets. Poggi Bonsi Gifts carries a large selection of Pylône “Nonna” (grandmother) Graters, Squid Whisks, Dog Cake Servers, fanciful Pepper Mills and other whimsical kitchen and gift products.
