Poggi Bonsi Heart of Italy Tour, 2017

We’re going Umbria and Tuscany to taste the delights of the region. Food, wine and gourmet adventures await in the green heart of Italy!

Poggi Bonsi Heart of Italy Tour : June 3-10, 2017

Poggi Bonsi owner Keli Sim DeRitis will guide you through the hill towns of Umbria and Tuscany where you will discover art and history, delight in the sumptuous food and wine of the region, and celebrate the sweet life in Italy with your fellow travelers.

Our home for the week will be the Grand Villa at L’Antica Vetreria, a beautifully renovated glass factory originally founded in 1292 and located in the medieval village of Piegaro in Umbria.

The Grand Villa accommodates 10 in five double bedrooms (can be made into twins on request), with a terrace, large living area, full kitchen, and a loft library.  We have the use of a large terrace and swimming pool.

pool-of-l-antica-vetreria Piegaro is a medieval village situated on the border between Umbria and Tuscany with so many hill towns within easy distance that it’s difficult to choose which to visit first. We’ll enjoy delicious meals, field trips and cooking classes with our personal chef, wine tasting and other gourmet adventures as we eat and sip our way from village to village.
cookingclass Among our culinary excursions with Chef Jennifer will be a cooking class at Terra Margaritelli winery in Torgino and a brewery tour in mystical hills behind Assisi where we will learn about…and taste…craft beers produced in a restored 14th century monastery. One day we will join Colleen Simpson, our host at L’Antia Vetreria, to visit Pienza, sample it’s famous Pecorino cheese, and have lunch at a gourmet restaurant nearby. Another morning Colleen will lead us on an eco-tour in electric jeeps through olive groves and vineyards at Monte Vibiano Winery, the first carbon-neutral farm in Italy…there’ll be tasting, of course! The Poggi Bonsi team will be teaching some cooking classes as the villa as well.
assisi_san_francesco_bw_6 Ancient hill towns abound in Umbria, together we will explore as many as we can fit in. We will tour Assisi, famous for the Basilicas of St. Francis and St. Claire, cobbled stone streets full of shops, and traditional olive wood products.
20160928_124113 Deruta, with it’s world-famous Majolica ceramics holds special interest for our group…we will tour the ceramic studio of GP Deruta, one of Poggi Bonsi’s suppliers, and wander the streets in old Deruta. While in the area we will visit the charming church of Santa Maria del Bagno with its hand-painted votive tablets. Band have a sumptuous lunch at L’Antico Forziere, in our opinion, one of the best restaurants in Italy. We’ll visit other historical towns as time permits.

Come stay, eat and drink with us at L’Antica Vetreria,
where you can celebrate life in Italy.
