Luxurious Italian Linens from Montefalco
October 6th, 2008
At www.poggibonsgifts.com we proudly carry a wide selection of Italian Linens from Montefalco– a lovely Umbrian hilltown perched high on a knoll overlooking lush olive groves and vineyards. The cobblestone streets of Montefalco are lined with linen shops, restaurants and wine bars serving the famous Sagrantino and Rosso di Montefalco wines.
Montefalco has been a center for linen production since the middle ages and today the only weaving mill in Umbria is owned by the Pardi family. Tessitura Pardi has been producing fine Italian linens since 1949 in a mill situated among the family’s vineyards. The Pardi mill features 42 shuttle power looms which weave fabric in the “jacquard” style. Poggi Bonsi features a variety of fine Italian kitchen and table linens crafted on Pardi looms.
The Pardi family has a rich tradition in the Sagrantino wine industry. From 1919 to 1945 the brothers Alberto, Alfredo and Francesco Pardi worked the grapes of their family vineyards by hand on the ground floor of the stately building of San Francesco in Montefalco. The Bianco, Rosso and Sagrantino Passito wines produced in the historical winery were marketed all over Umbria, and the most prestigious buyer was the Vatican. In 2002 their great-grandsons Francesco, Gianluca Rio and Alberto Mario Pardi revived their great-grandfathers’ winery and are now producing Pardi Sagrantino, Passito, and Rosso di Montefalco. We haven’t tried it yet because it’s still very hard to find in the United States, but we can’t wait!
